Default Transmission interchange compatability

Hey guys,

So I have a 2003 PT Limited. I still have the factory auto trans in it. I believe per the dealer- its a 41TE. I recently took it out and hand it "rebuilt". The last time it was rebuilt, it was 37,000 Miles before this rebuild.

The guy who rebuilt the trans is a class A psycho. The front wheels took a lot of effort passed idle to get to move. After putting it in reverse, it took a lot of effort and you heard a lot noise, it moved with a lot of pedal throw. Then, we heard a clunk, and the reverse gear went out. We have not dropped the pan, however when I spoke to the builder on the phone, he alleged it was some coil pack/selector switch that was bad and not allowing enough pressure for the oil to move through the gears. He was supposed to fix it, but he freaked out on the phone after I asked him for a time frame, now refuses to fix it or refund the money.

I know of a yard that has a few good cruisers in it. One is a 2008 and a 2010. Will the transmissions work in the 2003? Any years that I should look for? Are there any differences or improvements that would benefit this change over?

Thanks for the help guys!!!

Transaxles from 2007 thru 2010 will NOT work in your car. 2001 thru 2002 had a separate [stand alone] trans control module, I don't know if they will interchange with your car.

So, basically I'm screwed...

Can I use a 2003-2006 trans then? Or is it 04-06 only.... 2001 and 2002, and 2007-2010; leaving the 2003 an oddman out year ?

Any 41TE or 40TE from a 2001 thru 2006 PT will work. You don't have to worry about the separate TCM on the 2001/2002 PT's, the tranny is the same. The Autostick in the GT's doesn't make a difference either. Again, same 41TE tranny. But in 2007 Chrysler added variable line pressure (VLP) and there's an extra control plugin.

In general the 41TE was used in the 2001/2002 PT's and in all turbo models. The rest usually got a 40TE which is the same tranny but with a lighter clutch pack. Either will work fine in a non-turbo PT.
