Default Upgraded axles for the Getrag 288?

Currently on my phone so the search function is pretty wonky for me but I just finished removing my axle nuts and they were so old and corroded that the threads got stripped to all hell taking the nuts off. I will need to purchase new ones and since I'm doing a performance build for the PT I was wondering if anyone knew of upgraded axles for the PT GT 5-spd transmission. I feel my only options will be to get some custom ones done and if that's the case then so be it but if anyone knows of a company that currently makes them or has in the past and can point me in their direction it would be appreciated.

I'll do some searching once I get on a computer as I thought I saw some recent posts discussing this but I can't seem to find them.

you don't need to go above and beyond to find 'heavy duty' axles, because they are already designed this way. just get anyone from a parts store and as long as they're OEM copies or slightly better you're good

Sounds good, I know they're pretty beefy stock axles I just figured more for piece or mind. I'm shooting for 600 hp once I go big turbo later this summer and just wasn't sure how well stock axles may hold up to hard launches.

So i talked with a guy who owned a Neon with power upgrades, and he bought autozone axles and when he dumped the clutch on a launch, blew them up. He went and got Mopar axles and dumped the clutch on a launch, they were fine.
I trust the guy, so I'd only ever recommend getting the Mopar axles. Yeah it's more, but it sure beats having to turn in the 3rd set of broken axles to autozone under warranty.

The Mopar ones may be "fine" but this guy is talking about 600 hp. That may be wildly optimistic, but fine is not enough.
myckee likes this.

I agree. Also, I am pretty sure you can no longer buy new Mopar ones. They are all refurbs now and so what may have been a super axle when new, may be considerably less so now after having been rebuilt once or several times.

I spoke with the Drive Shaft Shop and looks like they would do "custom" ones for $600 pop. If I wind up breaking mine after all the power upgrades are done I may go that route. Might still be a while since I need to send off my cylinder head to get done then do the supporting upgrades for high HP.
