Default Multiple error codes - 08 PT Cruiser

Starting to have lots of issues with this car. Ran the codes yesterday and here is what I found:

P0304 - Powertrain - Cylinder 4 Misfire detected. Put new plugs, wires and ignition coil but still get this code

P0700 - Powertrain - Transmission Control System (MIL Request) - no clue about this one

P0562 - Powertrain - System Voltage low. - is this the battery or the alternator or just a loose wire somewhere?

My daughter drives this car, she said yesterday that it just stalled on her while she was driving. Was able to pull over and restart - no problems since.

HELP!!

I would suggest checking your engine compression on all cylinders.

P0700 - Powertrain - Transmission Control System (MIL Request) - no clue about this one

I would suggest fixing P0562 first. Wait until that is taken care as the cause of that code also might be causing the P0700 code.

P0562 - Powertrain - System Voltage low. - is this the battery or the alternator or just a loose wire somewhere?

P0562 Possible Causes:

Resistance is high in battery positive circuit or in generator case ground
Ground circuit is open or has high resistance Fused B+ circuit to
TC relay or to PCM has high resistance Intermittent wiring or connector condition
TC relay output to TCM is open or has high resistance
TC relay has failed
Generator field driver circuit is open
ASD relay output circuit is open
Generator has failed
PCM has failed

I am suggesting you have high resistance in the battery positive circuit and this is causing your battery voltage to drop triggering P0562 and P0700 code.

I would suggest you might have a bad cell in your battery. Have a battery load test done with the battery hooked up in the PT Cruiser. This has to be done to find out if your generator is working properly.

If battery checks out good make sure your battery cables are clean and making good contact.

Slant6; hook up a voltmeter to the battery terminals. It should read ~12.5 volts. Start the car. Idle speed should be ~700 RPM. Voltage should be ~ 14 volts.

And check the ground wires on the inner left fender.

UPDATE:

Did the following repairs:

Put in a new battery, Thermostat (and flushed the entire system), PCV valve and new gaskets between the upper and lower manifold.

It still idles real slow - almost to the point of stalling.

Still getting P0304.

Now getting P1684 "Driver 5 Line 4" - which I've never seen.

Is both speeds on your radiator fan working properly?

Try with the engine cold, start the engine, turn on the A/C and see if the radiator fan comes on.

P1684 just means that the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts.

Was caused when you changed the battery.

How do I check the speeds on my fan? I didn't know there was more than one.

It's almost impossible to see if the fan is turning - I can't bend enough to see it.

You don't need to bend. You should be able to hear it and feel it if it's working. Open the hood and prop it open with the stick. Start the car and turn on the a/c. Get out and see if you can either hear the fan running or put your hand between the engine and radiator fan. You SHOULD be able to feel the fan blowing air across the engine.

Started and ran with ac on high for 10 minutes

Fan doesn't work.

Also, idles real low - to the point of stalling if I leave it in drive.

Just heard a new noise - happy happy - seemed to go away when I turned off the ac. Sort of a but not quite a grinding noise but very intermittent.

I would suggest manually applying 12 volts to the radiator fan on both speeds. If one of the speeds does not come on replace the radiator fan. I would suggest not to drive it until the radiator fan issue is fixed. RockAuto has radiator fans for approx. $86.00 plus shipping.
