Default 2006 no start problem fixed

Hi, I thought I'd share my experience with a no start problem on my 2006 PT cruiser. The car would crank over but not start, with no error codes. It would fire with started fluid so I figured it was a fuel delivery problem. I had my helper turn the key to the start position while I listen for the fuel pump to prime, nothing. I beat on the tank with a mallet, still nothing. The next thing I did was disconnect the six wire plug by the fuel tank. I ran jumper wires from a booster pack directly to the pump wires, Blue with and orange stripe was positive and black was the negative. There are two black wires in the six pin connector. One is ground for the fuel pump one is ground for the fuel sender. Larger diameter one is for the fuel pump. The pump ran when wired directly to the booster pack and the car started and ran fine. I then spent many hours trying to trace the blue/orange wire from the fuel pump back to the TIPM. I was assuming the wire would have low resistance to ground through the pump motor. I checked all the blue/orange wires on the TIPM and they had high resistance to ground. I finally figured out that it was the ground wire that was not connected. I'm not sure where it was broken. I was able to splice a wire on to it and ground it to the frame and the car ran fine. As a test I removed my new ground while the car was running and it stalled. Searching the forum I see others have had the same problem, you just never think it's going to happen to you.
Brad

The ground wire for your fuel pump is located on the right front inner fender. It is a 5/16" hex head sheet metal screw, hidden under the AC lines.

I see the bunch of ground wires on inner fender under the AC lines. How in the world can you get to them?

This is the ground:

Per the manual it is G104:

There are several wires in that eyelet.

You would be able to reach it by removing the passenger side headlight, and that would also require removing the front bumper cover.

That ground is a PITA to access. However, IIRC, on my 08 PT, the fuel pump module ground point is one of the two grounds on the inner fender behind the airbox on the left hand side. These are easier to access.

Isn't it though

I don't know why they didn't put it in the area behind the shock tower, there is open space there and you would be able to reach it without having to remove anything.

If you wish, check out my thread "bad ground connection" from early July in this forum regarding these ground points.
