Default classic antifreeze harm anything?

OK the sticky said don't mix antifreeze types. Well, just replaced the water pump inlet tube an hour ago. Only water was in the radiator etc. I put in classic green antifreeze. How urgent is the using of HOAT antifreeze? Will the green stuff harm anything other than needing replacement sooner?

If as you said there was only water you can use other antifreeze. The important thing is to read the labels for compatibility when adding to an already running cooling system with coolant in it.

I bought mine with Green already in it.

When I had the timing belt, water pump & head work done...they put Green back in.

Most new name brand antifreeze is compatible with HOAT. Just read the label as already advised.

If you don't know the history of the car, I recommend flushing the cooling system and then refilling.

If left in too long, the older HOAT will sometimes cause a rust-colored sludge. And if HOAT got mixed with older "classic" antifreeze, it can create a black sludge. Both sludges can reduce the efficiency of the cooling system and clogged the radiator and/or the heater core. So by flushing the system, you may be able to remove some of any past "sins" done by adding the wrong antifreeze in years past. Plus, once the system is thoroughly flushed you can use whatever quality antifreeze you like without worry.

This is pretty well standard practice for me anytime I buy a used car.
