In my opinion there is missing information that the dealer is not disclosing.
What is the exact verbiage on the dealership invoice of what they did to fix your PT? How much was the fix?

The written and oral explanation was simply... fouled plugs.
They did not replace the plugs.
IMHO, they somehow got the thing started and
probably were glad to get it out the door.

Can't really blame them, how much time do you spend on a car
that's not worth much?
Just glad to get the thing out of there... will go over it thoroughly myself
when this lousy weather goes away.

Somewhat doubt the plugs were "fouled", they looked fine to me.

However, how about this scenario...
The car had been starting and running fine all week in spite of the extreme cold weather.
So, it then decides not to start on a cold morning but 20 degrees warmer than the previous morning. It cranks fine, battery doing its job, but no start.

There was a recent post on this site regarding a static discharge (from key to ignition switch) in cold, dry weather causing the WCM wireless control module to prevent the car from starting. Note, the WCM has nothing to do with cranking, only running. In other words, the car will crank but not run if not getting proper signal from the WCM. Apparently, the condition can be cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 30 seconds (although the problem may return some time later as the WCM may be damaged from the static discharge). So, what if the battery was disconnected at the shop (intentionally or unintentionally) as part of the troubleshooting and the problem cleared ?

Just speculation on my part.

btw, we are talking about second gen, IIRC first gen did not have this system

Do a code read on it and it should give you P1684 if the battery has been recently disconnected.
