Default Question About The Stage1 Trans Relearn

So I finally got the Stage1 PCM installed and working with HPTuners. I can now modify the tune. But since the manual says a relearn is mandatory after a PCM change, I ran that process first.

My question is this, after running the relearn, will the learned parameters get wiped out if I modify the trans tables in HPTuners and write them to the TCM? Thereby requiring a new relearn process?

Most clone stage1 are preprogrammed with the trans learn already part of the pcm.

I don't "think" its a clone but an actual salvaged PCM.

Any PCM with the correct year and chip inside can be 'flashed programmed' with the stage 1 or any other special customized tune. I believe it's the 2004+ PCMs. The transmission tables are written into the software tune. This is why one PCM is either a manual or automatic.

The syked tuning software suite I believe gives you engineering level control of the automatic transmission settings. I bought this software and the programmer, and it's very powerful, but it's more for real experienced and knowledgeable engine tuner technicians.

Right, but this one has the Stage1 stamp on the OEM label. This is why I don't think its a clone. Am I wrong?

This isn't a simple as you might think. The tune file contains tables for both Manual and Automatics. I think as far as the tune goes, you just need to disable one and enable the other. But then you also have to have the related hardware installed and connected. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, there are actually 2 controllers. The PCM and the TCM. When you "read" the tune from the vehicle it reads both separately and creates a single tune file. But when you write the tune (with changes) back to the vehicle, it writes the PCM and the TCM separately. According to HPTuners, if I make changes to the Trans tables, I must select the option to write the TCM. Writing only the PCM won't include the Trans changes.

And! I just remembered that when you write the TCM, it erases it first. So a good question is, where are the relearn parameters stored? PCM or TCM?

That's a good question. I do not know the answer to that either. Probably since the TCM is erased before writing, it would wipe out the adaptives too, assuming they are stored in the TCM. It makes sense that they would be stored there. There is no con in running the Quicklearn after every write, if you have that ability, or to simply follow the manual relearn process. I would do it just to be safe, especially if you plan on beating on the car right away.

Just curious, you installed an actual Stage1 PCM? OR did you use HPTuners to flash over a Stage1 file?

I've got SRT Stage 1-3 files, but nothing for the PT's with Auto's.
