Default Power Steering Reservoir Spitting Up?

Opened the hood on the 06 today for monthly oil level check, and found white spotty residue all over the power steering reservoir. Could it be a leak, or is this from foaming up and overflowing? Any suggestions?

Looks more like antifreeze to me. Check your level and make sure you don't have a hose leaking and spraying on there.

Is the seal on the cap good and the level correct that you didn't lose any fluid?

I would use some Simple Green and a brush and scrub it off and give the entire engine a good cleaning, then closely watch it for how soon it comes back.

You're in California but it looks more like some corrosion like what you see on cars in the Midwest to North East.

Actually, we have recently moved to Sugar Land, Texas, pleasant suburb of Houston!

You could still be close enough to the Gulf that it's salt water corrosion.

That's why I mentioned about the mid-west to north-east part of the US (salt belt).

Good suggestion, Rick. It DOES look like aluminum oxidation. Is that pump housing aluminum? I've never seen any power steering fluid leave a residue like that. But, I'm not a professional mechanic and haven't seen a lot of things that come up here!
