Default Fueling Issue?

May of not be at all related, but a recently purchased 2005 Ltd w/ turbo has developed a quirk...well several.

First, it starts and stalls three, four, five times before it will stay running. Fuel pump seems a logical suspect, but initial blush seems all is okay.

Then, second, I tried to refuel the other day and it no longer wants at accept fuel. Took several minutes to nurse in a few gallons and much longer to get 10 gallons in it up the next day. I never could get it to the top.

Anyway, today I pop out to take pictures of the filler neck and upon removing the cap, all I hear is gurgling. I would not have been surprised to hear a pressure releasing woosh, but gurgling with 10 gallons in the tank?

Oh, and no ODB codes or warning light with the cheap scanner.

You might want to check to see if the check valve is bad.

Inlet check valve. Makes good sense re. the fueling problem.

Is there a way to check its function? Manual says its unserviceable, but there is always a way, right?

And would this also create the starting issue?

I've had several PTs in recent years and this 2005 Ltd w/turbo seems to have a different fuel filler neck.

The red photo attached is the 2005. The other two PTs in my driveway are very different.

The 2005 will not fully accept the pump filler nozzle as do the others. It does not go nearly as far down the fill neck throat.

Does this make sense?

Possible the breather return line is plugged. As the tank fills up with fluid, the other fluid (air) needs to escape as it's being displaced. If there's no where or its restricted, you would have those fueling problems.

The hose seems much more accessible than the valve, so I'll go there first. Thanks.
