Default high beams won't turn off

Greetings. Hopped in to my 2003 touring today to do errand. Turned on headlights as I do whenever I drive. I noticed the high beam indicator on (replaced all instrument cluster bulbs few weeks ago when one burned out); when I clicked the lever to return to low beam, nothing happened. High beam indicator on dash still showing. I got out and checked headlights; parking, low and high beam all on.Only way to turn off high beam/low beam (and be able to engage fog lamps) was to switch to parking light setting only. Was about to order replacement multi function switch but thought I'd check with you guys first. Any advice would be appreciated. I am not voltage/circuit tracing type. Thanks.

I would suggest checking the headlight relay first.

multi function switch going out ! replace it, cheap part and it's probably worn out if original

Multi-function switch is the usual suspect. My 2001 is on its second replacement. IMO they route too much power through the switch for the headlights and fog lights. The connector gets "crispy" too.

Thank you PT Cruiser Steve, PTGT 03(love that green, rare around here), and RickinPA! I think I will order relay and multi switch; if relay works(x fingers) can return other. If not will be in possession of plan B. Multi switch is probably original; bought silver cruiser used here in Northern Virginia(originally came from Rhode Island) after my Black 2001 LTD hit mini van broadside (it pulled left turn through stopped traffic right in front of me). 'bye, 'bye PT! Well, time to order parts. Thanks, again!
