Default New Project '03 MT Cruiser Rod Knock

All - just brought home a project, previous owner ran it out of oil resulting in rod knock. 5 spd MT, barely got it home because it was bucking and lugging badly in 1st and 2nd. It liked 3rd much better so I used 3rd to nurse it home. It has P0344, cam position sensor, so I hope the bucking is related to that.

Will most likely grab a used engine out of a wreck to get this gem back on the road. It was well cared for and pretty clean, 140K miles on the clock. Should be a fun project. I'll post up progress.

When the cam position sensor goes out, the limp home has an rpm cutout. That is probably why it preferred 3rd. I can't remember where mine started breaking up, but it was probably around 2500 rpm. Change that and it will probably be okay to drive around. I think mine cost $15 and it is pretty easy. Don't overtighten it or you might crack the magnet and check that the issue isn't the connector.

rod knock is easy to determine as it increases in intensity with engine load and rpm/.

coincidentally, ran my pt low on oil, did some high speed turns and lost oil pressure - just enough to damage the connecting rod bearing but not register as a warning on the oil pressure gauge even.
