Default Road noise / exhaust noise in the car.

One of my wife's concerns about changing the exhaust system on "Jane" to a Borla Dual was noise at cruising speed. Said that the car already had a noise above 70 mph.One thing I learned a long time ago, if my wife finally says sometime about a noise in the car -CHECK IT OUT IMMEDIATELY. I must admit I have driven the car very little over the years because it was underpowered. When I drove the car and paid attention, the car had road the noise that all of the VANS that I have driven had. I removed the rear seats, carpet, and rear side panels, cut and installed 1/2" household carpet pad on floor and sides and reinstalled the carpet and side panels. The floor of a van (or pickup with a camper top) acts as a sounding board if not properly insulated. The car is quiter inside now with the Borla dual than it was before withe the oem exhaust.

Sorry, I did not think to take pictures, but is pretty straight forward.Remove seats and shelf.Pull up the vinyl plates around seat anchors and the trim at the rear door. The carpet will pull.Remove the screws holding the side panels, detach wire clip for power outlet.Cut out carpet pad to match floor and holes. Cut pad for sides. It is a little dificult to reinstall the sides because you have i/2" padding. It took me a half day with breaks to install the whole thing. If you are reluctant to do the side panels, just do the floor. It is much easier than the sides and is most likely 75% of the noise reduction. This is the first time I have done the sidepanels because we are keeping the car indefinity.
