Default Crankshaft Damper/Sprocket Installer 6792?

Do most of you use or have access to this tool when reinstalling the lower sprocket and/or crankshaft damper pulley?

I've used the old school method of heating the sprocket/damper and simply pushing it in fully into place. Both stop with a clunk at their inner limit.

I have noticed there is a grove in the crankshaft that could be there for reference. The sprocket easily pushes past the grove before hitting the clunk spot.

I guess I'm asking if this is too far?

Or should I be seeking out the special tool? If so, where would I find one?

The only one worth buying is a hydraulic installer.
The one you are referring to is just a costly way of using the bolt and a socket....with a hydro unit you dont even need to heat the damper- it goes quick and generates its own heat via friction.

At your local parts store, you can rent a "long reach harmonic balancer install tool". It is free to rent. The nut has a bearing incorporated into it and it will easily push the balancer/sprocket on with almost no effort. No heating and no pounding etc. The tool is free to rent around here. If owning one is your thing, you can buy one on ebay or amazon for $30-40. It will work on multiple engines and brands.
