Default 2008 turbo limited - power steering pump.

I've tried to save this pump with fresh oil and suctioning out the crud in the bottom of the reservoir but its still noisy.

Questions are,
How is the reservoir connected to the pump?

Is there an O ring between the pump and reservoir?

If so, is it a common size? Rock Auto does not show one.

What are the chances of successfully separating a 12 year old plastic reservoir from the old pump?

Is it better to take the headlight out to help make pump removal easier?

Thanks, J.

Well I'm quite pleased with myself. It seems as if I've stumped the entire internet. I think I've found most of the answers elsewhere. Except the headlight removal. Worth the effort or not? j

If the bolts are not super rusty, the reservoir will come off easily. If they are rusty, then its easier to either remove the pulley first, or, if your new pump has a new pulley, then smash it off with a hammer. Then you can grind the heads off the bolts to free the reservoir from the pump.

Thanks everyone. This is one of those jobs that really sucks! 4 hours in and I'm just now to the pump. Not sure how I'm going to get to the High pressure line. Maybe from below with a crow's foot, we will see. Of course I don't have and 18mm. 17 and 19 sure, but no 18. Oh well, see what tomorrow brings. j

Well that was a job. About 11 hours not counting tool clean-up. It does help to take the headlight out. You can reach your hand in through the opening and manipulate things. And you can look in the hole to see where the wrench needs to be for the pressure fitting. I was going to replace the high pressure line but I COULD NOT GET A WRENCH on the fitting at the rack and pinion. What a pain in the butt. IF they would have made these cars one inch bigger in the engine compartment, life would be so much easier. Of course being a turbo, space is just that much tighter. One of the bolts that holds the fan in place is completely hidden by the turbo piping. Took at least 45 minutes to get that little bugger out. I neglected to put it back in! Tomorrow, clean up and look for leaks, hope for the best. j
