Default Tranny shift cable

Hi all,
Have a 2002 pt cruiser. About 6 months ago the shifter cable broke off and my local shop put a new shift cable on it. Been great up until today. I went to start car and it wouldnít start like a dead battery in park. Shifted to neutral and it started fine. Put car in reverse and it wouldnít move. Ended up putting the shift knob a bit past reverse and it shifted into gear. Drive seems fine. All I can think is may be the cable stretch a bit and needs adjustment or something. Local shop is closed due to Covid so canít go there yet for warranty. Does this sound like it could possibly need adjusting and if so how difficult is it to adjust. Do you do it under car at tranny or under shift console inside car. Thx for help

I don't know offhand, and probably someone who does know will be along momentarily. But you can check this forum for manuals, might be helpful...

One of my past PTs had shifter adjustment issues. The quick fix was to tap the shifter forward while in park (just like you're banging the next gear in a '70 'Cuda with a Slap-stik shifter). This action freed the shifter release button, and convinced me the shifter cable was stretched. A little poking and adjusting got it by until I got a new shifter cable.
This was a couple years ago, but this is the best my memory could recall. Lol
