Default SOOO BIG question Check engine light on. Test coded P 0340

Check engine light appeared when I started up SOOO BIG this morning.
When I did the on/off switch trick it single coded P 0340.
Took it to AutoZone. Their code tester confirmed the same code P 0340. Camshaft sensor
Started it up again and did some minimal driving.
The check engine light now off.
This is a new one for me.
Should I figure it a fluke and not worry about it or go big bucks ($200.00 including Chrysler sensor.) and have the sensor replaced?
Please advise.

Cool Re: SOOO BIG question Check engine light on. Test coded P 0340

P0340 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit

It will most likely get worse and cause a drivability issue after a while... Probably worth getting it fixed sooner rather than later.

Not sure how much you can or are willing to do but the cam sensor is one of the easy parts to replace on the PT.

A MOPAR sensor from RockAuto is 50 bucks

Usually with a CEL and a P0340 code, the PT will limp you home at 20-30 mph.
The problem is often a cam position sensor going bad.
A new aftermarket sensor can be had for $30. However, many guys insist that a Mopar
sensor is more reliable. They cost about $80 at the dealer.
If it were me, would probably get a aftermarket sensor and throw it in the glove box to have available in case the problem returns far from home.
It is about the easiest thing that you will ever replace on a NA PT (not sure about the turbo). It's mounted on top of the engine... a couple of screws and an electrical connector.

Later on I took SOOO BIG for another short trip.
Subsequently the check engine light came back on.
When I accelerated to keep up with traffic there was a noticeable hesitation.
I called my reliable mechanic when I returned home as current health won't allow me to do this simple install.
He took me right in. After the installation of an original Chrysler camshaft positioner sensor SOOO BIG's running great again and the check engine light is off..

When the cam sensor goes south the engine will run but the PCM will limit the engine to about 2200 rpm. I can tell you from experience that if you keep on driving it this way it will eventually fail in a way that won't allow the car to start. I kept on driving my car while I waited for the sensor to be delivered. Today when I tried to start the car it would not start. As luck would have it the senor arrived today. I installed it and car runs great.

I've replaced mine twice in the last 5 years. Easy 15 minute job on my gen1 turbo. Local Chrysler doesn't stock them anymore! Got mine from RockAuto...

Thank you for all the good advise. It was a bad camshaft sensor. Code P 0340
As previously mentioned, a trusted mechanic replaced the camshaft sensor unit and SOOO BIG's running great again.
$85 for labor, $49.99 for a Chrysler sensor.
No more glowing check engine light.

Also some chry dealers are not so close to go for a part. As for that sensor. My local auto zone carried two brands bought brand with life time warranty also keep it in the glove compartment that is meaning receipt.

Make sure you also keep the tools you might need to replace aftermarket sensors in your glove compartment.

Most Chrysler dealerships'll ship you the sensor for a modest fee.
Well worth having an original equipment cam positioner sensor.
A better plan than carrying around a back up sensor and tools in your glove box.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right.
Installing it improved the performance of SOOO BIG remarkably.
