I'm getting 19 mpg with my manual GT - about 70% freeway driving with some rush hour traffic. I can get that up above 21 mpg if I coast down hill or when approaching traffic lights. For freeway driving without serious traffic I can get 24 mpg.

actually it doesnt seem to be the weather thats affecting the gas mileage. it seems to be when i start my car. its not every time i start it, but alot of the time when i start the car within the first 5 minutes or so the gas gauge needle will go down a noticeable amount

The car will run rich for a while till it warms up. If you accelerate fast when it is cold it can use a consideralbe amount of gas. You will notice this more when you are on the lower half of the gas guage. The way the fuel tank is shaped there is less gas in the lower part of the tank so it empties faster. The gauge doesn't measure how much gas you actually have, just the level in the tank.

Inferno Red GT, chrome wheels, chrome AMP fuel door, chrome side spears, PT Cruiser 3rd light diffuser, silencers removed from airbox...ain't this car fun?!?!?

Are you parking on an downhill grade? If so the gauge will read high when you first start the engine, then drop noticeably during the first few minutes of driving. Reverse happens when I park on an incline. My gauge reads low at first, then increases after a few minutes. Float is nearer the front of the tank.

Unfortunately if the incline causes the low fuel light to come on, it will stay on until you fuel up, even if the needle comes back up to the 1/4 tank range.

no cold engine or incline. the engine's still hot most of the time. the more i turn off the car and start it the more gas it uses. i know starting the car does use gas but i dont think i should actually see a difference in the gauge position

i found that the car likes higher RPM's. when i was lugging around it seemed to get horrible gas millage. now i drive it around 3 grand most of the time and get around 23 around town and 28 highway. the cars max power is at 5800 or so rpms so to get the horses out of it then you need to wind it out a bit...good luck
