OK...you convinced me. Went out to the garage and pulled the air cleaner (easy on mine). Got a flashlight and opened the butterfly. At 61,000 miles there was hardly any carbon buildup on the butterfly or around the edges of the TB. Just a slight trace. Shot some STP TB cleaner at it and wiped with a clean cloth. Started up and ran a bit rough for a second but cleared up and ran smooth after that. Guess I'm good for another 60K.

You see....... I don't own a boat, or a Viper, or a Rolex, etc.....
Most all the shop and dealership owners I know have over-spent and must charge more for their services.

Just curious... are turbos more or less prone to having the throttle body getting dirty? [:I]

I would say more, I like the idea of doing it with plug and air filter changes at 30,000 miles! That would be the second air filter changed! I just service mine every year cause it is a K&N!

Turbo cars are much worse for crud in the intake tract.
That's why so many GT owners are installing oil catch cans on the make up air hose.
Any time you're under boost, that's pushing the PCV closed and increasing the oil vapors being pushed into the intake tract.

I also removed the hose to the throttle body. There was a little carbon on the hose side. Tried to move the butterfly and no go, didn't want to force it.
I also thought that you weren't suppose to add any additives to gas because the gas already has a detergent built in it. If you should be adding I'll start again.
Still trying to figure out why my gas mileage is going down. There is no hesitation and it idles at 800rpm. Don't want to change plugs and wires just to change them, will wait untill its time

I want to thank all of you for your replies. I will have the throttle body cleaned at the 30,000 mile interval.

Thank you all again!

Gas additives won't help with the throttle body, because gas doesn't go near it. The fuel injectors are downstream. Back in the days of carburetors the gas additives helped keep the carb clean.

Now the additives help keep the injectors clean, which are trickier to clean than the easy-to-access throttle body.
