My wife and I recently purchased a 2002 Cruiser with 12k miles.
I have noticed that when I start slowing down from doing 45/50 MPH and the speed reaches around 25MPH I can feel the trans- mission downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear. It feels similar to a manual trans. (3rd to 2nd) downshift. Before I bring it in to the dealer I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the same thing.Other then that we are really enjoying our Cruiser. Thank you, Dennis B. Welcome! I'm sure someone on here has a answer to your question. Or at least can tell you of their similar experiences. I know occasionally my GT kinda jerks downshifting from 2nd to 1st. Doesn't seem like a problem to me. At least I hope it's not a problem<img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>

I belive they all do this. I have driven all of my friends and they all seem to have a rough tranny.

Dennis, my GT automatic downshifts are not always the smoothest either. Are you sure that he shift you are feeling at 25 is 2nd to 1st? My 2nd to 1st is typically the roughest shift but it usually occurs just before I come to a complete stop. My automatic shifts from 3rd to 2nd at about 25 mph. On the 2003's 1st gear is 2.84 with a 3.91 rear end that is an 11.1 overall ratio and the 205/55R16 are 840 revs/mile so 25 mph would be about 4000 rpm in 1st gear, sorry I don't have the exact numbers for the 2002. For you GT owners the 205/50R17 are 832 revs/mile.

Thank you for the info. you all saved me a trip to the dealer which, as we all know, is always an enjoyable experience.

I recently read an interesting article about Chrysler auto trans
on ALLPRO. Expert advice and could be useful for the cruiser. |
