I'm having a custom made intake done for my O3' TE N/A. It's going to be made out of a K&N universal filter, aluminum piping, and some rubber elbows to get it to all hook up together. Is there anything else specifically that I need; catch can? Would you recommend positioning the O2 sensor in the same place, or moving it to a better location?

pretty sure you are referring to the intake air temp sensor. You can leave it where it originally was or extend the wires an move it closer to the filter for a better reading. A catch can is optional, i would only do it if the hose from valve cover to intake pipe is very oily. would like to see pics of the finished product.

The little "sponge" that is in the air intake box is fairly dirty, there is a ring where the tube meets the sponge. I don't know if it's excessive or not, there is no oil in the bottom of the box, I've heard a lot of people complaining about that.

I made a custom intake for my '01. Make sure you support it well. I positioned mine about an inch above the fenderwell opening so I wouldn't suck in too much hot air from the engine. With no support it eventually bounced around enough to bend the K&N cone filter and put my PT in limp mode. After I made a metal bracket that attached to the factory air box support up to the pipe on the intake I never had another problem.

Hi fairly new at this stuff, but I was wondering if those cheapos on e-bay are any good. they look to be about the same set-up and a lot less than air raid or K&N. pardon me if this post is in the wrong place. like I said...fairly new. thnx

Do not get scammed into one of the cheap air intakes... just about every part will brake, and who knows what kind of air filter it is that came with it. Go for popular brand names only.

Deederz,
...or for a measly $25 (includes shipping), I'll sell you the one I bought off eBay. I only bought it for the red filter which turned out to be no more red than the one I already have! It's brand new, never been put on the car. ![]()

Sounds like a good offer crewzin, but I think I'll save my shekels and buy a brand name unit
