Airade CAI

My Airade CAI should be arriving in a few days. I was wondering, should have I have ordered the renew kit as well in order to use the filter for the first time? Or can I use the CAI out of the box and only need the renew kit after I clean the filter?

When I clean the filter, do I need to let it dry out or can I use it immediately?

I have one on the wife's '01. You can use it right out of the box. You only re-oil after cleaning. After cleaning you need to let the filter air dry. The instructions for cleaning the filter are easy to understand. I've cleaned and re-oiled the Airaid filter and the filter on my AMX intake.

Thanks. Do they take awhile to dry? I'm thinking if I should buy another filter replacement so I can alternate between then during cleanings.

You should be able to clean it in the evening, let it dry overnight, and the filter should be dry in the morning. Just make sure you set it in a dry place.

I like to clean it first thing in the AM so it can dry in the sun all day. Make sure it it completely dry as water and oil don't mix. That evening I apply the oil...SPARINGLY!...and let it sit overnight. It takes some time for the oil to "wick" through the cotton material evenly. Next morning it is ready to reinstall.

Not too fond of the Airaid. It's a bit too loud as a daily driver. I may go with a K&N Dropin, while keeping the silencer on and put the Airaid in during the weekends.

TURN UP THE RADIO! :D

My AirAid only "roars" when I punch the pedal - it'll encourage you to softpedal and get better mileage.:D

Yeah, I'm using it to ease up on my acceleration, but there are those times when I need to pass or just catch up with traffic. The noise is a killer and I think it's even louder than my Borla cat-backs. One of the reasons I went with the Borlas is that it does not create alot of interior noise, unlike the BTG, Flowmaster, Magnaflows, etc. If I keep the Airaid on, I might as well go with a Flowmast "American Thunder" to drown out the noise.

pretty much any performance mod you do will create some noise. Intake, exhaust, stiffer suspension etc. Gotta take the good with the good in my opinion, but if the noise bothers you stay stock.

Actually, I plan to switch over to stock with K&N filters and also keeping the silencers during the winter. I won't need the extra 5 horses or so that the Airaid will give me in the snow.
