I found some underdrive pulley's on Jeg's for the PT Cruiser. They're made by Unorthadox Racing, and there are two types, Ultra S and Ultra R. Has anyone installed them, or even heard of them? Do they really work, any dyno results? Noticeable difference?

Believe RallyDRock has one.
If it's a wheel-driven dyno, you might see a difference.

yup i have the ultra S because i wanted to retain a/c and power steering. ultra R only drives the alternator. I used to work for them and their parts are very very high quality. it made the car driveable with the a/c on.

What do you mean by "retain ac and power steering"? What's the difference between Ultra S and Ultra R? Any noticeable performance gains?

the ultra R only has ribs for one belt, the alternator. thats why it is for racing.
the ultra S is the street version with room for two belts. basically it is 1/2 the weight of the stock pulley and is about 20% smaller. There are no dyno tests for the PT but we normally see about 2hp at the wheels for every pound taken off of the crank. if you want to do some homework the site is pretty good www.unorthodoxracing.com

So how much weight exactly does it reduce? How big of a pain is it to install, I was reading the installation manual and got as far as "Remove passenger wheel and wheel well". Would you recommend it?

factory pulley= 7.00lbs 13.00oz
UR Pulley= 1.00lb 14.00oz it is worth it. the pulley is an interference fit, you ice up the crank and torch the pulley hub slip it on all the way and its done (gotta get it right the first time like wrist pins on pistons) the most difficult part for me was getting the stock pulley off. second mos difficult part, loosening the alternator to remove and install the belt.

I have a AFX UD pulley on my 2.0 Dodge Avenger. The car has 242k miles on it. The pulley has been on for 180k of those miles. No problems at all with it. The one on my GT has been on for approx 10K. Other than the belt squeals when wet (needs adjustment i guess) no problems with it either. SO far, so good [8]
