Hey I finally tried it yesterday after I remembered to. I had 1401 on the trip mileage. That funny because I have like 16700 on the over all. I guess at some point it got reset by something.[:I]

Kool Im glad I read and paid attention. See my PT is not just a driving machine now its also and fuel documentation device to compare to my 28 MPG Nissan.

I chuckled when I first read this thread, but no more. The gremlin has been loosed in Michigan too! I have complained to my dealer about slow starter speed when cold, but they didn't have it long enough to duplicate the problem. A poor or even marginal ground sure sounds a likely culprit for both problems. Thanks guys!

Is that fix still holding? I passed this information along to my service advisor and had them add a thicker ground strap to my battery. It went almost 6 days before it reset.

The dealer reports that S.T.A.R now admits they know about the problem and are working on it.

Welcome, PWhite.
Any other symptoms? Do radio stations/clock reset? If it were ground, wouldn't they also? (Unless they have a capacitor to hold it for a while). Maybe a loose connection where trip meter gets its feed? The push-in reset switch defective?

May have found the solution to the trip ododmeter resetting itself. Dealer totally unsuccessful and not very cooperative - ditto chrysler.
This spring (2004)I installed an old fashioned condenser (the kind that old fashioned ignition systems used in the distributer - also used for noise suppression from the engine on AM radio) between the ground (left fender ground connection - the one with all the wires) and the hot connection for jump starting the car -had to solder a longer lead onto the condenser pigtail to reach the jump post). It's now been cold since October....today is Dec 7 , 2004 ..... by now in 2003 the car had reset every tankful at least once - sometimes multiples) had one reset in Oct when it first got cold - none since. The problem is clearly related to static discharge. Bob

funny you are talking about the odometer. I have a 2004 and a few days ago when I started it up in the morning...I noticed that the odometer had reset to 2.2. I seems like it had 45 or 50 on it the night before. It has not done it again but for a few days after that I keeped thinking if I may have reset it somhow myself. Well from what I read it looks as if that is not the case...Would the Hyperground take care of this problem????

If it is a grounding problem then a better ground -Hypergrounding- will work but if it is a static discharge problem then it will only partially help that! One thing for sure, it can not hurt anything!!
