Default Good performance birthday present

I want to get a performance accessory for my dads birthday. He has a stock '01 PT. I would like to keep the price under $500. What do you experts recommend? What is the best bang per buck in this car. Computer chip, Springs, Exhaust, what? And who are some of the reputable parts dealers you guys are buying from. Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.

Jeff,

Everyone you ask is gonna have their own opinion. You asked what's the best bang for the buck in performance but you say it's your dad's car....would he mind a louder exhaust, stiffer ride, a roar from an air intake system when he puts his foot down?

The first page of this forum is loaded with aftermarket dealers. I haven't heard of a bad one, but some are a little cheaper than others and some are faster than other as far as filling your order. We could all start naming the one's we've dealt with, but then you'd be stuck with a large list of names.

On the top of this page and in all the forums, there's a "SEARCH" button. Do a search on "exhaust" or other mods and see what some of the PT owners have been saying about their parts.

Good Luck.

A K & N FIPK and a Bassani or BTG muffler will give him a nice sound and some added punch. If you shop around you can do both for around $ 500. There are cheaper ways to go but you can make a big mistake with a cheap muffler and the K & N is smog approved.. The chip will add Horsepower but you have to use high test and some of the things I have read about them lead me to believe you could have warranty problems

It's more than you want to pay and there might be other sites cheaper but:

K&N FIPK System at www.martelbros.com for $238.00

Bassani Single Exhaust system at www.raceandstreet.com for $395.00
Bassani Cat-Back Dual system same place for $519.00

BTG Cat-Back Single system at www.pt-tuning.com for $429.00
BTG Axle-Back Stainless Steel Muffler same site $225.95

I have seen K & N FIPK on eBay for less than $ 200 but they are not always there so keep checking. I paid $ 180 for the K & N and $350 for the Bassani including shipping. I would get the BTG if I had to do it again because the sound is very similar. If you find a good price don't forget club discounts
