I have looked at a couple of after market sites and they say it's not available for 2003 and 2004? Some sites say it is available. Are the mounting holes there, if they are and you want to install it you should be able to. Has anyone had a 2002 and a2003 side by side to see the differnce? Not sure what you mean by inside the trailing arm-axle,bigtommy?

My cruiser had the optional front installed, nothing mentioned about the rear.

Would it be safe just to buy the rear from say Eibach and install it or should it match the factory front one?

So it in promotes oversteer and not under steer then whats the point of having a strut brace under the hood in the front?

The mounting holes, slots, whatever you want to call them, are there. Well, it is on my '04 PT GT, so I'm assuming they are there for '03s as well. You just need to buy the Rear anti-sway bar install kit, which is not included with the Eibach anti-sways.

I think that is no more than "DC corporate spin" and the removal of this part is simply a "cost-cutting measure", but, I may be wrong. You need to decide this issue for yourself.

Read what DC has to say:

Chrysler Service Bulletin
Number: 02-004-02
Group: Suspension
Date: Oct. 28, 2002

Subject:
Rear Stabilizer Bar

Overview:
This bulletin provides rear stabilizer bar technical information.

Models:
2003 (PT) PT Cruiser

Discussion:
From the initial launch of the PT Cruiser (2001 M.Y.) all vehicles built for sale in the U.S.
and Canada included two devices for roll control at the rear of the vehicle:
* An internal stabilizer bar, integrated into the rear twist beam axle; and
* An external supplemental bar, which was added during production development to achieve
desired vehicle dynamics characteristics.
An engineering change occured for the 2003 MY that increased the size of the internal
stabilizer bar. This new internal bar provides a level of control which equals the
performance of the previous combination of internal and external bars. As a result, the
external supplemental bar was no longer required, and was dropped from produciton.

NOTE: NO EQUIPMENT SHORTAGE IS PRESENT ON 2003 PT CRUISERS WHICH DO
NOT HAVE AN EXTERNAL STABILIZER BAR. NO RETROFIT OR ADJUSTMENT IS
REQUIRED. THE FUNCTION OF ROLL CONTROL AND BALANCE IS ACHIEVED
ENTIRELY BY THE INTERNAL STABILIZER BAR, WHICH IS INTEGRAL TO
THE REAR TWIST BEAM AXLE. ADDITION OF A SUPPLEMENTAL EXTERNAL
STABILIZER BAR ON U.S. OR CANADE MARKET 2003 MY PT CRUISER IN
THE ABSENCE OF OTHER CHANGES WILL COMPROMISE THE VEHICLES'
RIDE CHARACTERISTICS, AND IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

Policy:
Information Only

If you believe this I have a bridge I want to sell you a service manager friend of mine when this was a hot topic put an 02 and 03 on a lift side by side and the only difference he could see was the sway bar itself. If the rear was redesigned how come it looks the same and the mounting points for the bar are still there???

IMHO the reason the bar was removed was it doesn't do much. When we removed my rear sway bar to put aftermarket bars on you could have someone on each end of the bar and twist it back and forth so how much help would it be on a 3300 pound car NOT MUCH.My guess would be that there redesign amounts to different springs.

You may be right as I've heard the the stock Mopar Stabilizer Bar "ain't that much" and one would be better served by intalling aftermarket performance front and rear stabilizer bars.[|)]

Mike-in-Orange, did you ever get your rear anti-sway bars?

I put the stock bar on my rear and while it didn't make a huge difference by itself, in conjunction with the springs it makes for a nice handling package. I'm not saying that an aftermarket set wouldn't be better, but for $100 I couldn't pass it up.

I have to agree with Cal Cruiser, adding the factory rear stabilizer didn't seem to make much difference in handling by itself. After I replaced the stock Goodyear LS's with Yokohama AVID H4s the combination made an impressive improvement in handling. I still have stock springs on my '04 Touring Turbo.
