Little Blue, You're on the right track. You're own test proves you want to get it right. I don't want to jack this thread so I'll ditto RallyDRock's post above. Check www.bstockum.com/tempdata/html Bob Stockum has run some temp tests at various speeds with a multi channel recorder. Hood seal vs. no hood seal. I printed the graphs out to take my time to study them. No hood seal shows cooler temps over all with a nice improvement at his K&N CAI intake. I'm good with that. Good thing.
I was thinking about those soft hoses, too. One easy thing I might try is nylon ties every inch or so to prevent ballooning. There is another hose at the intercooler inlet down by the transmission that's very soft. (Jim of AMX told me about this) Another idea I had: There's some insulating wrap we used to use back in my racing days to keep the heat in our exhaust hraders, looks like a woven strap material. I thought maybe this could do double duty and stop the ballooning and keep heat out of the air supply. It's in the JCW catalog. (We need a "cold air smiley face" to sign off) |

[?]2step on the hot side intercooler hose I split the 3" aluminum exhaust duct hose to make installation easier, then used nylon tie wraps every inch to inch and a half along the length of the soft hose. this added support, protection and insulation. On the cool side soft hose I removed it ( after removing air cleaner box and battery), then I slipped the aluminum hose over the soft hose only splitting it at the temp & pressure fittings in front of the throttle body.Using aluminum tape I covered the split area.No clamps were used around the aluminum hose at either end as I wanted air to flow through it to act as an insulator and carry heat away. The aluminum ducting hose is cheap, 3" dia., 8 ft. long is $6.48.I have enough left over to do the job all over again.

[?]RALLYDROCK you come up with outstanding information especially that temp test.It made my barbecue temp sensor look sick! The "redi-chek" units are small, about the size of a cell phone or pager. It has a timer, beeps and led temp readout.I was wondering what the difference would be in the temp test between the alloy GT manifold and the plastic old PT manifold.Oh well, guess I better get off my butt, take the temp sensor out of the package and do some testing.
