Air Filter Question

Ok I've been thinking about updating my airfilter on the Cruiser and have been looking around all the forums and seeing everyones opinion.
Obviously the best thing is to try and keep the air cool, but some of the cold air intakes are alot of $'s and that's before I get them shipped to Australia.

My problems is that I like the look of the stock filter box and the way it covers the battery and stuff up. I think I can fit a cone style filter inside the stock air box with a few mods.

Is this feasable any opinions, or would it be restricting the air flow to the filter too much?

Your saying you can fit a cone style filter in the original air box. Then what, do you plan on leaving the top of the original box off so you can have the looks of the cone filter showing? Is your intension just to update the looks of the engine compartment? Without the top, your going to be drawing in hot air from the engine along with the cool air from the funnel at the bottom of the orignal box. I guess that would work and you can still hide the battery box if that's what you desire. A good quality cone filter like K&N would definitly draw more air than the original filter so you don't have to worry about restriction problems. If it works, and looks good, share your modifications with the rest of the PT crowd. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

My orignal thoughts was just to put the top of the stock air box back on and just get the sound, but I was think that I could make up a clear perpex top so you could still see the cone. I would like it to look good too. I suppose I could even cut the cntre out of the stock air box top and replace it with something transparent. This gives me something else to think about now. lol
