Default the oil issue

My internet research on the PT turned up the oil consumption issue--about 1qt per 1K miles for those with the problem. The only fault suggestion found was a bogus vent on an aftermarket valve cover. Unless there is an obvious leak, IMO the only reasons for oil loss are bad valve guides, rings that did not seat during break-in, or improperly honed cylinder walls. Has anyone determined the cause with these engines?

it is caused by the factory valve cover. poor design of the baffle near the breather or PCV hoses. 1qt/1K is excessive and an environmental concern. i have installed a air compressor fluid separator in-line to prevent the oil from entering the intake manifold and gumming up the valves, injectors and such. not sure if the problem continues to the 2002 model year PTs but it does plague many '01s. If and when i remove my valve cover i will inspect and correct the situation.

You would think that Chrysler would learn already how to seal an engine. I had a 1987 lebaron with a 2.2 turbo...they had a problem with the pcv system leaking oil and also the valve covers....had a 1989 plymouth acclain with a 2.5 turbo...same problems....

Guess I'm lucky - closing in on 80,000 miles, and not using any oil. [:I]
