Didn't mean to kick a hornet's nest!
From what I knew, GT & the "lite" engines were the same, didn't know about injector difference '03- '04. ![]() I also believe the autos are the same - except for the autostick feature available on GT only. If I read everything right, a GT on regular gas = turbo lite, no need to change engine controller since knock sensor will step in? ? [:I] |

knock sensor to a point, it is for light spark knock only. id be cautious about running regular, might have to drive with tail between legs. IMO use premium and enjoy the power, its worth the extra $ at least to me

As long as you drive extremely conservatively, you could probably get by with running regular in the HO all the time, but as has been mentioned, there is a limit to how much the PCM can cut back performance to avoid engine damage. Even the manual provides warnings in that regard.
For non-aggressive driving you can probably get by with mid-grade gasoline. For aggressive driving, always use Premium.

But the "GT on regular gas = turbo lite" isn't quite right either. While we all agree that running a GT on regular gas will negatively impact performance, I just can't imagine that it will rob you of 40HP! No, the Lite PCM is indeed programmed differently from the GT, but it's more than just allowing you to run on regular. The price you pay for cheaper gas is lower HP, and that logically means lower boost levels. |

Just to chime in...I really think it sucks that you can not buy a turbo lite (ie. Touring Edition) with a 5 speed. Only with the GT can you get a turbo and a stick...from the factory! What is Hahn's number again?

You know, I seem to recall an article regarding the 180 hp turbo that made some mention of it not including the piston cooling jets found on the high output version ...
