Default Weird hatch window replacement problem!

Last May we bought my wife's 03 Touring edition from a Dodge dealer (who also owns a Chrysler dealership). The car is great, and it looks good sitting next to my bright silver limited edition.

We discovered recently that 2 bars in the rear window defroster don't work. The service tech said that the window would have to be replaced. We set up an appointment with an auto glass installer, to do the work right at the dealership.

While installing the new window, the installer found that the hole in the glass for the rear wiper arm was 1 1/16 inch in diameter. The hole in the new glass was only 15/16 inch in diameter. There was no way he could install the new glass. Both the parts department and the auto glass company could only find one part number for the window, and that was the part they had.

Anyone know anything about this? The service department is "researching" the problem, but I haven't heard anything in days. They put the old glass back in, but that doesn't fix the problem.

Any info appreciated.

Maybe Chrysler made a different wiper motor(that fits thru that hole). Did you check for different wiper motor numbers for different years? Just a thought. [:I]

I may have your answer. I took the motor out of mine on my 2001 to put a handle on the back window. I just measured the shaft that goes thru the hole in the back window and it's only 7/8" so it would fit the 15/16" hole that you have. The part number on the motor is 05288703AB. So it looks like they did put a different motor (larger shaft in the 2003 PT (yours) and you got a back window with a hole for the older 2001 (mine) PT...although you said there was only one number for the back window? Bump to the top. Anyone know what happened to SRG. He was having a problem with a back window and I gave him some info, but he never returned? [:I]

Sorry I never got back, today Harmon auto glass called to say they had the part--they said they had to order a 2005 rear hatch window-- The installer came and now it's all done.

How a newer hatch window with wiper motor assembly got onto the back of a 03 PT I'll never know. I think there was some sort of factory change in parts.

Maybe, but I haven't seen anything at all that indicates the rear hatch, or any other part of the car, was damaged in any way.
