Hello,
I have a 2001 with the 2.4 liter (vin B)with approx. 45k on it. I'm getting some sort of an oil leak. It appears to be coming from the back of the engine. I haven't had the time to have it checked out yet. I was just wondering if any body had any ideas on what I should look for ?[:I] |

is there a puddle on the ground? maybe the oil filter is not on tight.
smoky? i spilled some oil (no funnel) and it took a day or two to make it to the exhaust.

Keep an eye on the dipstick oil level 'till you can get it up on a rack or jack stands to trace the problem. Your post had very little info so it's hard to say. I can't think of any seals at the "back" of the engine other than the filter or maybe the oil pan.
See if you can get a free diagnosis by an auto shop somewhere. |

I'll check the filter. Are there any
sending units back there ? Thanks.[8]

Just squirm under from the front and take a look at both the oil filter and the drainplug first, for signs of leakage. If it's either one you might just need to tighten them. Is your oil low on the dipstick?

It doesn't seem to be loosing much oil. Its
way too cold to look at it tonight though.

There is an oil presuure sending unit located in the middle of the block (top to bottom), on the firewall side and more towards the driver's side.

My neighbor took a look at it tonight. It was
just barely seeping fron around the oil filter. He tightened it up a little. No more problem. He also ordered all the stuff to change over to Amsoil. He says you should do an engine flush first, so he ordered the stuff for that too.[8)]
