Hey technobear, it's only a couple bucks more! [8] Love your PT! You wouldn't buy your woman the box of $2 chocolate rather than the box of $15 chocolates, would you? [] Anyway, I really like th K&N oil filters because they are very heavy duty and with the 1' "nut" on the top, it makes putting then on and taking them off a piece of cake!

Castrol Syntec 5W50. Used it in the '01, the '03 and the '04 PT's.

Currently I use 10W-30 Mobil 1 and love it. I do not get better gas mileage, I do not get extended oil change intervals (my choice), my car does not feel quicker, but it makes for a more smooth idle I am protected.

Dido here! Mobil 1 is great. I also pay extra ($12) for a K&N oil filter. It's a really good, heavy, structurely hard oil filter. It worth the extra 6 to 7 bucks.

I found a place $96 for 12 - $8 @ !

Synthetic oil is in all my cars. Buy the 5-quart jug of Mobil1 at WalMart - it's perfect for a PT oil change, and cheaper than individual quarts.
I go 5,000 miles between changes, but I don't think longer is a good idea - the oil may not break down, but there are acids & crud that filters can't remove that build up.
Syntheic is great at temperature extremes - starting a cold engine, or idling with A/C on on a hot day. No reason not to use synthetic.

For a turbo car at least, there is no choice--synthetic oil is the only way to go. I have used Mobil 1 5W-30 since 3700 miles and it has worked well for me.

I have been using Amsoil for over a year now. I have noticed that the engine runs a bit cooler than any other oil, also has battery gas milage. Even doing acouple oil changes a year is cheaper than doing a change 3000 miles.

Here in God's Country, Texas, I use 10W-30 because of the higher heat (read "no freeze"). [8D]
5W-30 is a good choice for the Great White North.

Battery gas mileage? Now there's a new concept! But seriously, those of you with turbos need to check out Mobil 1's new 5W-40 oil. It's labeled "Truck & SUV" but started life as Mobil Delvac 1 heavy duty synthetic oil. I've seen it in Wal Mart and it will provide better hi-temp protection than any 5 or 10W-30. By the way, running 10W-30 over 5W-30 just decreases fuel mileage and takes that little bit longer to flow to the bearings on a cold start (even on 45 degree Texas mornings!).
