Default New muffler vs. catback

what are the advantages besides price with getting the whole catback exhaust system as opposed to just getting a different muffler for horsepower and sound.

Well, if you get stainless, longevity, altho the aluminized front part seems to be holding up fine. Other than that, no advantage, since pipe's the same.

I was thinking of keeping the stock pipe back to the muffler or will this hurt the performance?

I doubt that the factory pipes are mandrel bent. The PT exhaust has three 90 degree bends between the catalytic converter and the clamp that separates the axle back section to the main pipe. The axle back section has an additional 180 degree bend and a 90 degree bend in it.

My thoughts exactly: If you are not going or dont have to go to 2.5" then a catback don't seem to make much sense from a performance stand point. From a noise and esthetic standpoint that is a different story! I am just not sure from the stories of others that catback systems really make much power just a better noise factor and the duals do look nifty to some!

Since DC put on the Borla 2.5" duals on their stage 1 cars for the block party in Pamona two summers ago I would say they thought stage 1 needed it for the turbos anyways.
