See above - get the best disks NAPA has to offer - they also give a discount if you show an AAA member card. Raybsestos ceramic pads were cheaper at PartsAmerica.Com than NAPA.

If everyone says drilled and/or slotted rotors are useless, why do all of the expensive sports cars have them? I dont think they would put terrible rotors on $100,000+ cars.

TaylorMade,

I believe what everyone is saying is, slotted/drilled rotors are overkill for daily driving. Unless you have the extra bank, its not worth the cost for regular driving? They ARE usefull, becuase they help to eliminate brake fade, due to hot brakes.

Basically drilled/slotted rotors are good for the 100+mph stops that high performance cars do. Or at track events where you are constantly using your brakes at higher then normal speeds.

On my 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo, I run drilled rotors upfront, and it seems to help a lot. Very little brake fade, and believe me, I've done a few 150+mph braking......

Matt

If you are upgrading brake systems, you should try replacing the stocke flex brake lines with the braided stainless lines. They do not expand under pressure and your get a much firmer feel in the brake pedal. This is a standard upgrade in most cars when upgrading the system. I am not sure if Russell makes a set for the PT or not but I would think someone does. When it is time for brakes for me I am going with the Powerslot rotors because they are not cut through, ceramic pads and upgraded brake lines. It is true that in everyday driving you will not see a difference using slotted rotors until you are in a panic stop situation. Under hard braking gases build up between the pad and rotor that reduce braking efficiency. I have used powerslots in the past on other cars and they really are not that expensive. Yes, more expensive than stock units, but everything you upgrade on a car usually is.

StopTech makes braided stainless steel brake lines for the front stock calipers on the PT GT. I'm not sure if the N/A PT takes the same lines though.

Hey guys -

I've got a question about the napa rotors and pads. What part numbers are the ones I would want to get? I THINK these are the numbers you guys are talking about, but I want to make sure.

Front:
Rotors - UBP86955 - $61.49 EACH
Pads - RBPCMX7716 - $89.49 (4 pads)

Rear:
Rotors - UBP86551 - $16.49 EACH
Pads - RBPAE7438DM - $41.49 (4 pads?)

These prices seem really high for the car. But maybe not. Most other cars I have worked on, besides my 944 turbo, the brakes have been really cheap. The front rotors seem to be WAY overprice for just regular rotors. But again - Maybe they are all this price? Napa sells the cross-drilled/slotted front rotors for only $51/each, so I dont get why the lower end rotors would be so much more.

Also - why doesnt Napa sell ceramic pads for the rear also? I would much rather replace them all with the same pads, instead of mixing up pads, even though I know the rear doesnt do much work, it still does enough, and would make sence to have the same pads as the front.

Matt

Here's from Sci-Fi's parts and accessories:
NAPA
Note: listed from highest to lowest MSRP.
Brake Pads:
Front, Ceramix: part # CMX7716
Front, AE Metallic: part # AE7716M
Front, Ceramix Safety Stop: part # SS7716X
Front, Metallic Tru-Stop: part # TS7716M

Rear, AE Metallic: part # AE7438DM
Rear, Metallic Tru-Stop: part # TS7438DM
Rear, turbo, AE Metallic: part # AE7650M
Rear, turbo, Metallic Safety Stop: part # SS7650M
Rear, turbo, Metallic Tru-Stop: part # TS7650M

Rear Brake Shoes (drum brakes): part # AE10759R

Rotors:
Front - part # 86955
Rear - part # 86551
Hi-Perf Rear Left - part # PR86551L
Hi-Perf Rear Right - part # PR86551R
Front, Tru-Stop Rotor (low cost): part # 4886955

Based on your prices, I'd say you're spot on for the best - I replaced all 4 corners rotors & pads & it was just under $300. I used Sci-Fi's part #s, and they were correct.
I couldn't find rear ceramic pads anywhere. Front ceramic pads (Raybestos) - which are what NAPA sells, you can get cheaper at PartsAmerica.Com.
