it will most likely fit but there are studs on the factory manifold to mount the shield that are not present on the new header. I can attest to needing a heat shield, my turbo manifold gets to a maximum temp of 1350F and without a heat shield the wires in the area have started to darken slightly. I have been lucky in that nothing had melted but dont want to press it. i actually made a heat shield today out of sheet metal and will attatch it to the firewall using preexisting holes.

Fritz, Are you saying that the factory heat shield will not just fit around the aftermarket headers? The reason that I ask is that I was planning on doing the work myself in my garage. Should I rethink this?
I know the factory heatshield will fit on the JBA with a slight alteration. I had a JBA on my '01 and liked it. As had been said, stay away from the Hedman.

It will fit with a little bit of bending (the heat shield is just stamped sheet metal). The tricky bit is coming up with a way of mounting it to the header, which will not have the handy bolt holes that the factory manifold has.

The mounting has to be able to stand the heat (no zip ties) allow for header expansion/contraction, and keep the heat shield from rattling.

You could probably come up with a clever use of steel exhaust clamps...

I don't understand, would a new manifold not come with a heat shield?

Just realized I'm 6 years late to this party, but if anyone's still reading, what's up with those rubber plugs on the heat shield? How do you get them out?

I haven't looked at mine yet, but guessing I'd say they're for getting to some bolt/nut that the shield covers/hides.

I'd have to say by using 2 screwdrivers, gently wedge one in and use the other to work the plug out...without any damage to either plug/shield..

Are you going to do any hp mods to your PT?? If you have, what's the ticket?? I want more power for mine....I have purchased a new muffler (free flowing) and a used airbox/filter from airaid...still have yet to install...maybe the end of this week I'll do it..

I've learned from previous projects that the factory exh. tubing is ok if a person doesn't go extreeme on mods....that's why I'm only changing the muffler and cold air box/filter...but would like to buy a programmer to play with the timing a little...along with a few other mild changes, not too much that would take out the trans./conv....don't want to spend that kind of $$$$ for a built trans for this little puddle jumper..

Was kicking around the idea of finding a turbo set up..all componets that goes with supporting a turbo'd PT....

Generally the heat shield would be a re-usable item, so no new shield would be needed. If a heat shield was bent up or something, it'd be easy enough to get it back in descent shape with some patience.....it's only metal and can be welded on to whatever's needed....
