I have a 2001 PT LTD and have just replaced the air filter with an Airraid unit (low restriction). Does anyone have an idea if removing the stock muffler and replacing it with a lower restriction muffler would help performance?
My car is an automatic and for the most part I am quite happy with it's performance. It's a little pokey off the line but in the 35-70 range it has more than enough zip for my needs. Wouldn't mind a moderate rumble coming from the exhaust though. ![]() |

Donn,
The Airraid unit should help you a bit with your off the line performance. Besides the "lag", if your feeling any hesitation, plugs and wires will cure it. I went with the DynoMax #17732 muffler and suggested it to others. Nobody has been dis-pleased with it. Flow thru performance, nice sounding idle and not too loud when you jump on it.

I put on a Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow muffler. It has a nice deep rumble at idle, and a deep hum going through the RPM's. I would recommend Flowmaster, but if you want something a little more quiet, then go for the 50 series. I noticed a difference once the muffler sort of broke-in.

i dont reccomend the BTG unless youre ok with a bit of rumble. (love the performance though)

I have a magnaflow muffler and am very pleased with the sound. I had already installed the airaid intake system which changed the sound somewhat. I believe the performance is enhanced to a small degree with this combination. I like this combo so much that I have done the same on a new Silverado purchased last month.

[:I] Crewzin, You mentioned you have the Dynomax 17732, as does MTL09. Did either of you weld or have someone weld mounting brackets on it? Or did you create a more ingenious method? I bought one of these almost a year ago and haven't done anything with it yet.
