The cowl mounting screws are called rivets. There are 7 of them for the complete cowl.

See page SPT-610 of the PT parts manual.

See, that wasn't so hard.

Yes, thanks I got mine back on but next time they can not be used again. I didn't know you were behind the cabin filter too! Thanks for that as I love my cabin filter even though I dont change it often enough. I am not sure why all Cruised here don't come with the cabin filter. BTW I think I only remove 4 of the rivets to get to the filter. AND thanks for the instructions they are great.

I tried the paper filter and found it was very restrictive. The filter would start plugging up within two weeks and I could hardly get any air flow, and had to run fan on high.I made a support grid from aluminum mesh (you could use 1/2 inch steel wire screen) to cover the duct openning. I found a couple of pieces of foam filter material and even bought an edlebrock foam air cleaner replacement element, all of which worked better than the paper filter, but I found that the 1/4 inch thick foam (6 in x 9 in) worked best. I placed the foam over the grid and folded the edges down over the grid and duct, then secured with a couple of large tie wraps. The system works well now and at normal fan settings.

Go and buy the paper filter, then when you don't get any air flow and are cooking in the summer heat think about what I said.I gave an alternative filter to consider. I am going to try another configuration that is charcoal impregnated and will pull organic fumes from the air entering the cabin, but you guys go ahead and spend $16.00.

I do not find the factory filter restrictive at all. The air flow is not reduced at all...now if you use the lawn mower filter that will cause a reduced flow of air...

I picked mine up from the dealer yesterday, and will install it
today. Dealer price was $16 plus tax.

Just bought 2 Cabin air filters yesterday, $16 each from the dealer. I also ordered (using MX-5's part #) the replacement rivets. The parts guy mumbled something about the part number was superceded. The parts that I ended up with were part #5113015AA RIVET-COWL @ 1.85 each. The new parts were 3/4 inch long black plastic push-pull pins with a 3/8 diameter round head on it.

They seem to work fine, and look good. As to whether they will stand up to being reused, I'm not sure. They are definitely better than the old 2-piece originals.
