My 04 Turbo LE is developing the same problem. First try takes a while, second try it starts right up. I'm at 46,000 miles right now and had the fuel pump replaced at 20,000. I try to use only Shell V-Power and add a bottle of injector cleaner every month??

Cold weather. Turn your headlights on for about 10-15 secs before startup. Then turn them off. It gives the battery a "boost" if you will. It kinda wakes it up. If it doesnt work, I would suspect a dying battery.
It's all about starting power.
Also make sure your AC, radio, ect are all turned off.
Ofcourse you should check you battery connections for corrosion & tightness.

What? Did I read you right? Draining the battery doesn't give any kind of "boost". It just drains the battery.....

Ummm, OK. Whatever you THINK you know. Can you tell us exactly how much drain will be put on a battery if you turn on the lights for 15 seconds? You dispute the fact so you must know something, so please share. Considering it DOES work & people have been doing it, since before you & I were even born. It has been proven to work. What is better on a battery. One large load or a gradual load?

Considering you live in Tampa, i'm not sure if you actually ever experienced COLD weather.

As an electrician, who lived and worked in NY for many years, I think I know a battery has a charge, and unless the alternator is running, anything turned on, powered by that battery will drain it.

The cranking amps required to turn the starter is the same whether the lights (or any other power-using device) has been turned on or not.

Many times, going out to my car on 17 degree mornings, brushing the snow off the door to open it, the LAST thing I would do is turn on anything, if I thought the battery was weak.

Maybe YOU could explain scientifically, what you mean by "waking up" the battery. If you THINK if works for you, great, I'm glad for you.
