Default K&N Air Filter?

I was thinking of a k&n air filter to try to squezze some more horse power out of my pt. Not the kit just the one that fits in the stock one for the time being.
ANywone got one of these before? How do they perform?

Probably the best value for the money being spent. Not sure how much HP you will pick up in a non-turbo application though.

I use one on my GT. The extra money your saving by buying just the drop in filter can be better spent on exhaust, aftermarket plug wires, etc.

Worth the $35 or so it costs. Buy a cleaning kit later on (about $15) and the filter is reusable.
When you remove stock filter, look into airbox, remove a short, white tube/nozzle. It's a silencer. That, + the K&N will create a little more noise, but will let the engine breathe a little bit better.
Many folks have done it, I know of none disappointed.
As Hyracer noted, a full intake is pricey. Plug wires on the PT are gone by 30,000 miles - I think the best buy is the Crane's from RaceAndStreet.com. The wires won't add HP - just replace what you may have lost from the stock one's dying.
A flow-thru muffler is the next step - again, more noise, but better breathing.

I noticed no difference in performance after putting the K&N drop-in in. It does seem a bit louder though.

You won't have to worry about passing smog for 6 years, if you plan on keeping it that long.
