Default Faulty Engine Coolant Sensor?

I was on hwy 1 the other day just exiting morro bay, and i hear a chime, i look down at the panel and the coolant light is on and the gauge at cold, note i have been driving for a good 10 mins you would think it would be in the middle. So i pull over in the next town which of all places is harmony, a town with a population of 10?(i think) No gas station, nothing. I turn the car off, turn it back on it starts fine, the light is off, guage at normal. I was all what the %$*! . With it running i flip around and head towards San Luis Obispo to the chryaler dealer. It did not happen again the whole way there, got there, told them what happened and they decided to look at it, they got this: FOUND CODE PO116, FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR, OPEN CIRCUIT.
They said they fixed it and it was good to go. No problem, get home. 2 days later, i am driving back from Pismo Beach, on 101. I have been on the road 10 + mins and i hear a chime, every curse word i could imangine came out, i was so mad i just drove home. Got home car went off, turned car back on, back to normal no light. Never has happend again. It has been over 2 wks now and not a sound out of it.

You need an exorcism....
Seems the dealer did not cure the fault. Sounds like either a flaky sensor or a faulty connection that usually is good, sometimes is open...

I have been having the same problem as of late. Topped off with coolant and no problems for a few says, then took my son for a drive to the store and on the return trip temp started to spike. pulled over killed the car and restart it 5 mins later temp drops and holds for about 2 miles then began to spike again. So far I've noticed that the fan wasn't kicking in so I check the realy and realize that it partially out of the socket pushed it firmly in and let the car idle for 20 mins with temp holding. I knwo that it could be the sensor or possibnly the thermostat so I will wait tosee whats next or just run it into the dealer tomorrow.. Kev
