Default BOV before or after Intercooler

Getting ready to install a new BOV and I was looking at the web page for ATP Turbo. They have a kit of the Neon and the BOV is between the intercooler and TB. I have read other places that the BOV should be as close to the turbo as possible. I have placed a call to ATP for some help. What is the thought here?? Thanks.

I seem to remember Hector from exhaust depot say that it should be installed on the hot side of the intake (before the intercooler) I have seen pics of his setup and thats where his is on his neon srt4. That being said, I am going to install mine between the throttlebody and the cold side of the intercooler. There is just no room to put it on the hot side, unless it is mounted almost under the front of the cruiser. Too much chance for damage from weather, and possiblr dings on driveways or other road hazards.

I would think you would want it as close to the throttle body as possible for optimal effect. The intent of the BOV is to prevent a pressure spike behind a closed throttle body causing a pressure plus back to the turbo stopping the turbine from spining. If it's near the throttle body it is venting pressure at the source of the spike.

The benefit is less spool up time between shifts and increased longevity of the turbo bearings.

Most manufactures place the BOV on the cold side of the IC. Being that you have one already on the cold side (stock) I suggest that you place it on the cold side.

Check out my previous Post..

I installed mine before the Throttle body on the cold side. See Pic Below..

Here is what I did to install...

1) Remove Air Box and Battery. Cover intake with something
2) Remove Vacumn hose & Sensor from piping leading to Throttle Body.
3) Line Up the pipe and flange with BOV installed right next to the
piping to figure out where the bottom cut should be, and mark it.
4) Get a Utility or hobby knife with a brand new blade and make the
bottom cut. This piping cuts like butter because I think it's
100% silicon.
5) At this point you can remove the pipe from the throttle body
because you made the bottom cut. Also make sure you plug the
bottom half of the pipe so nothing gets in.
6) Put the Pipe and BOV in and secure tightly with hose clamp.
7) The nice part about cutting the bottom part first is that you can
now trim the rest of the pipe outside of the car, until you get a
nice fit between the BOV and the throttle body.
8) Clamp and Reclamp both the BOV and throttle body.
9) Now you need to run a Vacumn line to the BOV , The best line for
this is the Vac Line going into the top of the throttle body
(Same place I get my boost reading from too.)
10)Attach Vac line and sensor to Piping and Re-install Battery and
Air box.

11)All done.

Let me know if you have any ?'s

Installed the HKS SSBOV today. Installed it in the same place as Chipmunk did, in Fact I used his pic & instructions to go by and it went on perfectly and works just great !!! Also installed the AutoMeter EGT Gauge (Pyrometer). I removed the cat and drilled the downpipe for the hollow bolt fitting. Installed the weld on inside the pipe & tightened & sealed. This was probably overkill, but I didn't want any posibility of exhaust leaks. It too is woking well. So, my turbo set up looks like this, TurboXs dual stage boost controller (1st stage set stock) second stage set to 12/13 steady spikes to 15 to 16 (momentary) max. I have the autostick and not the 5 speed, and a kickdown to 1st or 2nd gear will spin the tires. I have a tuned dual 2.5" exhaust system from Scottsdale muffler, and have low restriction intake w/K&N filter. I have ordered the 3 inch Turbo up intake from Jim Barnes in Fla. I am curious to see what difference this makes in performance. (no silencer in front of the turbo Intake). I plan on monitoring the performance for a while now.

I install the BOV and put it between the intercooler and TB. It ended up a little higher than I planned and I may redo but it works well. Thanks for all the replys. I also got the Blitz TT installed and placed it below the tach. It also works great. Next mod is Greddy E01 and gauges.

You do know that you are replying to a thread that is over 5 years old! The pictures are no longer available.

But as to your question, you can use a dremel cut off wheel, or a hacksaw blade to cut the plastic rings, and then use good 2.5" T-Bolt clamps to replace them with the BOV adapter.
