i think temperature seems to have some sort of effect on how pronounced it is for some reason. When it cools down outside at night, it seems to be less noticeable than when driving mid-day when it is hot. With exhaust and an intake you REALLY hear it when approaching redline... Had anyone tried installing an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator? And are the SRT-4's also experiencing this problem (i guess Hector is the only one who could answer this
)?

From what I have read, going one size colder on the plug, dropping the gap to .042 or below and using a solid electrode plug is the best cure. If the plug becomes too hot, it will act like a glow plug and prematurely detonate. Some of the discussion on the PTTC site concerning this problem with aftermarket turbos and superchargers in late 2001 and early 2002 went into this problem in detail.
I believe that there were a few threads about dealers having to replace plugs in the early production units. |

Just Bumping the topic to see if anyone installing the Stage 1 kit has noticed an improvement in this hesitation problem at 5000 RPM or so.

my auto parts guy cant order the NGK, but he found
Autolite#3922 that match the cooler range NGK's. But the plugs are 1/4" shorter than stock, and I was wondering what effect they would have on preformance? |

I have been working on the problem (two months) with the service manager from my dealer, Chris Nikel's Chrysler/Jeep Tulsa, OK., 918 592-1636, when he called this morning (7-30-03)and indicated that a DC engineer has responded and a new PCM is being shipped for my car(for the 5000-6000 stumbling in second gear). I made plans to be with the dealership for the 6th of Aug.
Wonderful news, the PCM was installed yesterday (8-6-03) and guess what? Yup, no more stumbling, surging, just smooth consistent power to redline in all gears!!! The DC engineer was on the phone while we test drove and said the PCM was from current production runs. I was told by the SM that a copy of the TSB would be mailed to me as soon as DC sends, in the mean time DC said for all experiencing the surging problem should contact their SM, ASAP. Oh, the plugs (original) were re-gaped back to .050 before installing the new PCM. Everything else is stock on the car (3150 miles). gp 03 Stone White |

Boy this is going to open another can of worms. I was so proud of the sound from my exhaust system that I did a sound clip of it and was going to put it on the forum for all to hear. When I played it back it was nice at first then at 3K rpm all kinds of terrible sounds. Even my wife said what the heck is wrong. I thought that maybe I just gave it to much gas to fast so the second time I gave it gas slower, hit 3K and sounding good, hit 4K and sounded terrible. Please keep us updated on this.

If you were in neutral while revving the engine then you should know that the rev limiter kicks in @ 3500 rpm's. It's a good thing..

Grandgrandpa,
Have you received a TSB# from your dealer? I have this hesitation problem and if they are finally addressing this issue, I would like to have an official number to give to my dealer, especially if they need to replace the PCM.

I have the "drop off" at about 4000-4500 RPMS then is really kicks back in. At first I thought that closing the gap had solved it and maybe it did to some extent, but it is still there. To me is feels more like hte computer pulling timing or dumping boost than a miss. Maybe I have another issue. Other than that mine is strong up through about 5500 rpm (that is where I usually shift)

When DC releases the TSB I will have a copy mailed to me by the dealer. At that time I will post the numbers. Meanwhile I would get in line for the PCM swap, your dealer should have some info by now.
As for the spark plug gap mine is back to .050 with the new PCM. gp |
