Default ...high RPM miss???

...what is the current situation with the high rpm miss fire? Is this happening to all turbo PT's? Auto stick and 5 speed? What has service departments done to correct it?

if you're talking about the stutter between 4700 to 5300, then DC is aware of the problem. There was a rumour going around that they were developing some sort of software upgrade, but haven't heard anything since. When i asked the service guy at the dealership, their response was: "what are you talking about?". I think they could ignore this b/c it seems way more of an issue with the resonators removed from the air box, after ripping the whole box out all together the problem has still not gone away.

...I still have the air box silencers but have changed to dual exhaust, mine has done it all along but never shows a code for the engine as a misfire..how many are affected and any idea of what
the reasons they are giving for it...doesn't the lemon law say that a vehicle can only be serviced for the same problem three times and if it isn't repaired they have to buy it back?

I don't know...

I have setup the car back to stock complete with the resonators and factory exhaust, cleared the computer memory and the high RPM hesitation is still noticiable. It mainly appears in second gear. when it happens, I see the turbo jumping up and down, maybe is an air volume issue or is just a consecuence of the exaust gases playing with the turbo impeler... My car is scheduled to go for service this Thursday for this situation and for (maybe I am paranoid but beter safe than sorry) a Knocking issue. I hear minor knocking in the engine when in third and boost is over 10 PSI.

Will keep you posted.

Ian

It was mentioned on another forum that it may be due to the .50 gap on the plugs. I have the same miss. I am going to drop the gap a little this weekend and see what happens. http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...?TOPIC_ID=2200

I pulled all my plugs and re-gapped them to .044 this afternoon . Unfortunately is raining ,now and not a good time for full throttle runs ! I will post if I get an opportunity later this evening /early am to do some banzai runs !

I had my plugs changed under warr. due to this and no change. The dealer contacted D/C and they said they know of the problem and they are redesigning the computer as software hasn't been able to fix it. (They said about 6-8 months.) I can't see it as a plug gap issue as it is intermitent and inconsistant.

I have a 5-speed and I haven't had a misfire problem at any time. Is this a problem with cars being built during a certain time? Mine was built Dec. '02.

Mean Green this problem shows up aound 4500-redline. In my case it's like a small stumble or miss as I'm winding thru the gears (usually 2-4). Not all the time but definately noticeable to me.
