Thanks, Tom. I will do some more reading and check them out. You are the first person to provide some [u]specific information</u> on this issue and I appreciate it. Think many of the guys mentioned have modified their cars to achieve optimum performance and, at least some, take their cars to the track. Under those circumstances, one would expect there would be some auto transmission issues. However, if you do not "push" the turbo to the limit frequently I think one would probably not have too much to worry about, but, I may be wrong. [B)] [8)]

rszappa1, like I said: "...I may be wrong." And no, I am not a "Professional Tech" although I've owned my share of performance vehicles--Chevy Corvette, Ford Mustang GT (both stick shifts), and a Dodge Dakota 5.9L R/T (auto). The only transmission that gave me any problem was the Mustang. It is my opinion that my GT Autostick will provide many more trouble-free miles but only time will tell.

Have a good day.

Back to the original question about the standard auto trany holding up to to the additional power that the Stage 1 upgrade generates...Before making the decision to shift to the stage 1 I need to talk to the dealer or warranty representatives about how it could effect my contract with them. Having the dealer install it also sounds like a good idea so if issues arise after the installation it would have been performed by the same folks who manage the warranty. It looks like no major issues arise as long as additional modifications are not added or under extreme conditions like racing.

Does this sound like a reasonable assumption?
Chip, sorry for the "thread-jack". [B)] It was not my intention as I was only trying obtain some specific information that would be of help to you in making a decision.

It is my opinion that your assumptions are reasonable and well thought-out. My thinking was much the same before "S1" was installed on my car more than 18 months ago. I talked to my dealer and received a commitment from top management to install and support STAGE 1. Therefore, I am completely covered for the life of my DC warranty (including any Autotick problem). If your dealer is not able to answer questions directly to your satisfaction then I recommend you consider going elsewhere. From my experience, having a responsible and credible DC dealership behind you is the "key" to feeling comfortable about having STAGE 1 installed on your car.

Good luck.

Chip & Gary - It was this very reason that caused me to have the Stage 1 installed by my dealer. I received their guarantee that the work would be covered and my warranty would not be voided. The Stage 1 is a very simple upgrade (so they tell me) but I did not want any future problems.

Oh, and just wanted to add: 40,000 miles on my GT A/S and it is still going fine. Due in for oil change and tire rotation within a month and other than some wonky wiring issues (covered uder warranty), I have had nothing but routine maintenance on it. S1 oh so very soon or not at all (mortgage on house starts Jan).

Sounds like having the dealer put in the Stage 1 and be confident that the warranty is covered. Getting that commitment in writing such as added to the Stage 1 invoice sounds like a smart move as well.

In addition, reasonable driving with the standard auto is a factor in longevity.

Thanks for the input folks, it has been a lively discussion with a reasonable outcome.

The other thing to consider on the A/S is to consider having the fluid changed more often than one would normally consider...had mine changed at 36K miles. Not cheap, but still better preventive maintenance than doing nothing at all. And with the hot weather in AZ, it does not hurt to be a bit more cautious, knowing the tranny problems that have been known to exist with Chrysler products.
