Default Low Voltage?

Just installed gauges. I tapped lights into wires for preexisting light wires and do not have light. Does anyone know if the current for the PT's lighting is lower than bulbs supplied with AutoMeter gauges? Thanks, Phil

Maybe you didnt hit a 12V source. The wire that is used for the headlight/guage lighting is a pink wire. You can find it by opening the fuse panel to the left of the steering wheel. Then unscrew the fuses blocking two groupings of wires. There should be a group of eight wires right behind the fuses (a little above) The pink wire should be the top right wire of the group. This is the wire i used and have had no problems with my autometer guages.

The orange wire running right up the A pillar is connected to dimmable dash lighting.
I used this one and it also works great. Gauges dim with the dash. Tapped in with a solderless connector.

Do not forget that you need a ground.

If the gauges came with a seperate ground wire make sure what ever you connected it too is truely grounded. I have seen metal stiffeners under dashes that are isolated from the chassis and hence are not grounded. Also, if the gauges do not have a seperate ground wire with the expectations that they are being grounded through the housing, you will not have a ground if they are in a plastic guage pod. You will need to add a ground wire.

Thanks guys, I finally found the problem. The connector wasn't making full contact with the lighting wire. I'm good to go!
