Is the Downpipe the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the Cat? I want to stay legal with a cat. Does anyone make a hi-flow cat for the GT? Can a hi-flow from another car be adapted for the GT? And, would there be any problem - like with exhaust gases - with a 3" Down to a hi-flow cat to a 3" straight pipe that just dumps straight down somewhere under the car? Thanks to all the more-knowing out there. I'm learning a lot here, and it just adds to the enjoyment of driving this cool car.

Yes, it is. The problem with the cat is that it is so close to the turbo. The turbo has to push the gasses through the cat almost right away, which slows down the spool. If DC had put the cat further down the pipe like most cars, it would be easy to replace. However, as someone posted a good while ago a picture out of the service manual, its got a wierd angle at the flange, it would be kind of hard for the average person to modify themselves. Also, I dont think most of the exhaust shops would want to deal with removing a functioning cat. I think our best bet right now is to hope people like Hector can provide us with pieces that remove and/or replace the cat and downpipe with a shiny piece of 3 in pipe or a hi flow cat further down. For those of us who dont have to worry about emmisions, you could always just gut your cat

Hey Hector,
I might be willing to be your Guinea Pig. I'm up in Stuart, FL and my GT is ready for a new exhaust. What kind of deal are you thinking. My only requirement is no annoying droning at 2500-3000 rpm like my '02 had with a Borla system.

On my SRT, I had no droning sound. I would cruise and it sounded great. IM sure the same sound would come out of the GT. ITs a turbo setup so you dont have to worry about it. It wont drone. I usually have time on a thursday or friday to make the setup.
I want to wait for my srt stuff to come in. Im sure i can use all of that setup and only need to change the over the axle portion.

Here are some sample pics of my prototype exhaust ahtat I made for the SRT. The downpipe is the same for the GT so thast good for you guys. Ill have it ready in about 3 weeks or so. It conists of the flex, the highflow cat and the transition pipe that goes from 3" down to 2.25" to fit the stock setup. On my srt setup, it had a coupler that allows you to go fully 3" all the way back.
