Swapping autostick gears w/5 speed

My Dad just swapped out the gears from his 350Z. He has an automatic
tranny had a final drive of 3.62 while the 5 speed had 3.90. He swapped them and saw a big improvement in performance. Do auto and stick PTs have different gear ratios? If so, can we swap our auto with the 5 speed gears? Just thinkin......

The gear ratios are different between the auto and the stick PT's but in the opposite direction from the 350Z. The Turbo Autostick has a final drive ratio of 3.91. The Getrag 5 speed has a final drive ratio of 3.29 so changing out the gears would give you terrible performance out of the Autostick. Third gear in the autostick is a 1.0 ratio and 4th grear in the autostick is 0.69. 4th in the Getrag is 1.11 and 5th is 0.88.

What about putting a sixth gear on the auto stick, wonder what the top spead would be then. I had a old Ford F-150 that was a 5 gear automatic, the previouse owner put in a new transmission and added a sixth gear for long highway hauling. Got great gas milage and barreled down highway 5.
