Mine makes the same sound with Jim's CAI. I have a Blitz BOV coming and will see what happens after I install it.

MY srt also has that fluttering sound. As stated above, it is due to the extra pressure that is in the turbo. Not all of it is vented via the BOV. IN fact i think you have to many washers in your BOV. I am not fond of BOV with washers in it. I prefer the ones that you can adjust with a simple allen key like the HKS, greddy and blitz unit. I set these at the low spring tension so I have less of a flutter.
What you hear is the turbo surging. I saw jims intake and its kewl. Looks great on his car. ON my car i also have an open intake so you hear the turbo a whole lot more.

Is it harmful or not? I'm running a Stage I with a BTG intake, my Mopar BOV id in backorder, I hear the fluttering sound when I lift below 3500 RPM, if I lift at WOT it just sounds like a lot of air is being released without the rattling and fluttering. Any input on this one? I just want to make sure the intake can't harm the turbo.

Not to worry my K&N Typhoon air intake makes the same noise. The stock air box without any silencers (3) makes the same exact noise!

I really hate the sound of Shamu in my hood though, is there a way to make it less loud?

The only time that I was able to get rid of the (fluttering) noise, was when I installed the HKS SSBOV. I have the 3" turbo up smooth CAI and the noise of the turbo sucking air, turbo spool up. and BOV blowing off on throttle backoff are all that I hear, Except the roar of the pipes when I hammer the throttle hard. (Scottsdale tuned 2 1/4" dual exhaust kit). The exhaust has a deeper sound and a little louder since stage 1. I think that the mopar BOV may remedy the flutter by venting to the atmosphere rather than back thru the intake. Thats how the HKS works Just MY TWO CENTS [:I]

GEAR HEAD, ARE YOU SAYING THE MOPAR BOV MAY CURE THE CONDITION OR WORSEN IT??
I HAVE MINE ON BACKORDER NOW, AS WELL AS A FEW PARTS FOR THE REAR SWAY BAR.

If venting the pressure back into the intake is causing the fluttering, the upgraded mopar BOV vents to the atmosphere. If the cause is venting back into the turbo, the kit should elimimate it.[:I]

I have the Mopar Blow Off Valve. It is not a valve, just a plate that goes between the existing valve and it's bottom plate. It allows some of the pressure to exit through it. Nice psst sound. However it does not cure the other sound completely. Still enough pressure to cause the fluttering sound. First time I heard it I thought it was all over.
3,000 miles later, still going. Getting the stage 1 installed in two weeks and will see what it sounds like then. |

The fluttering sound will be there until the day you get rid of the car. It was there from birth at the plant in Mexico, but DC did a superb job of hiding it with the silencers in the intake system. As soon as you open up the intake by any of various means, you'll hear the sound. I've been told that it's present in all turbo systems to lesser or greater degrees, but is especially noticeable on GT's and SRT-4's due to the compact size of the turbo and its plumbing.
My intake now has the filter under the driver's side windshield wiper cowl and not only do I get the wonderful fluttering sound but on accleration it sounds like a jet engine at take-off thrust!
