Slow loading - Below is the link, plus some info on the Varad gear shift mounted switch module. Looks like it has some potential.

Good question. I have a 5 speed and didn't think about that.

While at the speed shop I saw a polished Billet alum. T-Handle for a manual Trans (shifter handle had a red B & M logo inlay on the top). The switch assy was built into the T-Handle itself, and had a button that is thumb operated. The switch actuator looks like a reverse lock switch for an auto trans. If I had a 5 speed, thats what would be on there right now. Got a chance to work out a little using the shifter mounted stage 2 boost switch. SWEET!! You can come off the line in stage 1 and without your hands leaving the shifter, or your eyes leaving the road and/or gauges you can get stage 2. Another toy for the kid to play with, I love this stuff.

Back in my racing days (almost too long ago to remember), The shifter mounted switch/button was connected to your brakes. You stepped on the brake pedal when you staged at the line, activated the switch/button and it held the car at your staging position without having your foot on the brake pedal. Your other feet (of course) were poised at the throttle and clutch and there was no worry about your car rolling forward and breaking the beam. As the tree counted down, you released the brake by using one finger to de-activate the brake control, and off you went. ![]()

I have fond memories of my first car; a '65 Rambler American. It had a 3 speed with electric overdrive. Big white button on top of gearshift. You could engage OD in 2nd, pust the button while changing to 3rd, then engage it at 3rd, giving 5 gears. You could push the button and mash the gas for a "passing gear". The gearshift was floor console mounted, and next to it was one that slid forward or back to lock out overdrive if you didn't want it. With the overdrive not locked out, clutch was only needed in first; optional for other shifts. You did need it for downshifts. Would love to have that car back now.
