Default new GT owner, cheap performance mods

I know this thread has probably been started before, but I wanted to know if there was any updates with new products or new research.

I just took delivery today of a

[8)] BLACK LOADED GT!!! [?][?]

SWEET.

Any how... what's new as far as cheap mods.

from reading this forum, I know it goes like this to start

-Remove the weather strip - I can manage this.[8D]
-Get a new intake - is there any homebrew type solution for this, or has everyone bought a commercial product??
-Exhaust - this might take a while for me to get the funds
-Get a boost controller / gauges - this again might take me a while to get the funds.

Do I have it down, or is there stuff I'm missing.

THANKS TO ALL THE TURBO smarties....ROCK ON.[?][?]

You can also remove the silencers in the airbox.

yeah, if you're looking for cheap...remove the silencers in the air box and get a K&N replacement panel filter. As far as exhaust it's only worth while to get a FULL system not just a muffler. And i think we'd all suggest a Hallman boost controller for a low cost mbc...happy tuning

Blonde / COP TZER.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going out to remove the silencers now, and take out the weatherstrip. I'll look into the boost controller right away.

Do you have links to the hallman?

any other ideas guys?

How about the homebrew style intake? Worth while, or buy a commercial product???

THANKS
-Shane

I have heard about removing the weather strip but haven't read any details on this. Is there a thread with details that can answer questions like: What are the positive effects to this mod? Is there a downside to removing the strip? Where is it located? And what is the best way to remove it?

removing the weather stripping creats a gap between the hood and the body at the rear of the engine bay, acting like a cowl. This creates suction by the air passing over the body, effectively removing engine heat from the bay. There was a thread posted way back that compared temp before and after in the engine bay. The only downside is that on the passenger side at the back of the bay, the vent for the climate control catches some of the hot air. The stripping comes off just by pulling up on it and is easily replaced.[^]One way to get around the climate control prob is just to cut the stripping and leave the piece in front of the vent...

Cop tzer and jody, you guys are so helpful! What a nice group we have going here!

I've got my first mods done. Weatherstrip and silencers removed. I did leave my passanger's side of the weather strip on for the climate ctrl stuff.

Now it's just saving the cha-ching for other mods.
